Hiked down the urban trail today to the reclamation pond. Saw lots of nice birds, my two favorites were a Pine Siskin in the sunlight singing away, and a Canvasback out on the pond. Copper also cheated a coyote out of a Mallard breakfast.
Someone hiking along the trail mentioned a European Warbler hanging around Building 23. Anyone hear anything about that?

Well I bet the Mallard was thankful! Poor Copper, probably just wanted to play
I have not heard anything about a European Warbler (did they happen to say what kind? Reed? Woodland?), but that would be some big birding news for sure, so maybe they were mistaken???
Awesome Canvasback sighting! Laila and I will go check that out for sure!
And I just heard that a Common Blackhawk was spotted at Page Springs (on March 1st), so Spring is here, samiam! Yay!

Not sure what kind of warbler, the info was from a passer-by and I didn't think to get more details, as I thought there was a bird called "European Warbler".
I'm so glad that they Blackhawks are back! It's sad when they aren't around.

Here is a late follow-up. It must have been a European Goldfinch! I saw one there while training for the riparian point counts. It was hanging out by that building with the bird feeders! Too bad they are pet escapes, but still really pretty birds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Goldfinch
