Calling all Wildlifers! March 27th - 28th at Raymond Ranch Wildlife Area (about 45 min East of Flagstaff). The NAU TWS club is having an all day (starting at around 9 AM) work event at the ranch to help AZGFD Wildlife Area Manager Dave Belitsky with some day projects. These could include trail building, buffalo heard monitoring and much more. Plus, enjoy the rest of the night camping out at the ranch with your fellow club members and TWS will supply the food (BYOB). If your interested please contact us at Wildlife.Society@nau.edu, and we'll send you more info.

Man, the California Condor release at the Vermillion Cliffs today was amazing. Many people showed up and a lot of them were NAU students too. We had a lot of sun, saw a lot of old friends and got to see many California Condors flying, playing and basking in the sun on a beautiful Spring morning. The air wavered in the heat and the vermillion of the cliffs was vibrant, and we even had 2 condors fly in fairly close over our heads.
I'll put pictures up on the website as soon as I can of the crowd and the condors.

Here is a Raymond Ranch update: THose of you who signed up should have got this e-mail from Mark already but just incase you didn't recieve it or you haven't signed up yet here it is..... ______________________________ Hey wildlifers! Our rockin' Raymond Ranch buffalo camping excursion is fast approaching! I've met with Dave Belitsky, the Game and Fish manager of the Raymond Buffalo Ranch, and coordinated a few single-day oportunities to log some time there for him. We'll split our group into smaller crews to help with the following tasks: seed and bio-fertilize a wash, seed and bio-fertilize the burms of a holding tank structure, add some fence postettes as visual cues to a string of fence, and potentially roll up some barbed wire from an old fence line. I'm working on food donations and we shouldn't have a problem organizing a meat, meat-free and probably vegan meal plan. We'll be meeting in the small parking lot east of the Bio building saturday morning at 9 AM, to carpool out to the ranch. Feel free to peel early or come out later if you need to. To get there head east on I-40, exit Raymond Buffalo Ranch (mile post 225?) and turn right at the stop sign. Follow the signs to the left and back over dirt roads to the ranch, approximately 20 minutes back in the desert. Friends are welcome, just give us a heads up on how many extra bodies we can get in on this. If you know interested parties not on this sign-up distribution list, please pass the word! Have good classes, and I hope spring break was refreshing! see ya'll soon, Mark Weissinger Vice President ___________________________ So there ya have it! Hopefully we'll see youy all out there, and if you haven't officially signed up to come spend a day and a night out in the high desert with good friends and good times than please contact us at Wildlife.Society@nau.edu, and let us know your coming. If you can't make it, we'll all be howlin at the moon out there for you, and maybe you can come out to the Hay Lake camping trip in April. Chirs

Howdy Wildlifers... Unfortunetly, Hay Lake Restoration and camping trip is not going to occur this semester . Mostly there were external legalities and time issues that prevented it from taking place as quickly as we had hoped, so its out of our hands. Stu Tuttle is still working hard to make it happen, so the project has been pushed into the Fall Semester and will still defenitly take place . So please, keep a soft spot in your heart for this great opportunity, and it'll be here again before we know it!

Actually Hay Lake will be occuring this Summer now, so stay tuned for that! Please come and join some of us out on the Wilson/Tinsley/Allen Quad (why is is called a quad when there is only 3 of them??) this Thursday, April 22nd for Earth Day from 10-5. I heard there will be some bands and some folks from the Center for Biological Diversity will be there to speak. We'll just be there with some antlers, skulls and brochures to show to people and try to recruit some students into the club. Some of us will bring some instruments to and maybe do a little jammin if the moods right. So swing by if ya'all can.

No, Hay Lake hasn't been set yet, we are still trying to work out the details but it probably won't occur until late in the Summer, close to when school starts. We were also trying to plan it around a date when most of the folks who wanted to come would have the day off. We still have to talk more to Stu, but in the meantime I'd love to go out there with anyone and just do some preliminary camping! Anytime folks, Sparrowhawk and i always have weekends off!

I don't know where I got the idea that Hay Lake would have to be postponed until late summer, but thats dead wrong. We can do it whenever we want, all we need are the people power and an augur (which I think was supposed to be acquired by Mark Wessinger). I know that Stinger said the best dates for him are May 20th thru 23rd or June 3rd thru 6th and 17th thru 20th, so would one of those weekends work for everyone else who wants to go?? What do you all think?

Crow, Keep in mind that we have the wildlife fair on May 22nd so that weekend would probably not be best to do Hay Lake. I know we are all good but maybe not that good!! So, Mark is supposed to come up with the auger? Lets hope so, that would make things so much easier. I hope everyone is planning on coming to the wildlife fair on the 22nd, we could all use the company plus it sounds like they are going to have some very cool things there!! Sparrowhawk or Crow (since Sparrowhawk is never here) know where and what time exactly everything is happening!

I am game for Hay Lake whenever it happens! I will adjust my schedule to make it fit. As for preliminary camping, I am always up for camping and I'm sure the Stinger will be also if he is not busy with his internship. If Mark has trouble getting an auger, let me know and I will see if I can get one. Actually, I will see if I can get one anyways. After all, 2 is better than 1! Just let me know a.s.a.p., so that I can arrange it.

See Stinger, thats why you make a better officer than I ever was, because if I was in charge of planning stuff we would all show up to 3 things on the same day, and it would probably be right in the middle of finals week too! ;D Man Chromiusdomius, that would be great if you could get an augur. I think the club would of had to rent one anyway, but if we could rent one form you or from a friend of yours that would be money better spent instead of just giving it to some company.

"Save the Osprey Day" is being hosted by Mormon Lake Lodge & Game & Fish Region II at Mormon Lake Village on Saturday, May 8th, starting at 9:00am til 12:30pm, when a great cookout is held for the volunteers.
This is the third year of "Save the Osprey Day" when volunteers pick up colored rope and trash in the vicinity, so the Osprey breeding pair will not have as much colored rope to bring back to their nest, just to the south of the Lodge. When the young fledge in August they can become entangled in the rope & come to grief, as two young Osprey have previously. If you have time Saturday morning, bring you gloves. Plastic bags are provided. The cookout is great!
