Hi Kitfox, I appreciated your response, thank you so much. Although it may sound more troublesome than I thought, I'll try to look for that then. Thanks again!

Today I saw a carrion bird of some sort by the side of the road eating a carcus. I think it was probably a turkey vulture because it had a red head. I only saw it for a moment as I drove by, so I can't be sure. There are turkey vultures around here, right?

Yep, there are a lot of Turkey Vultures around here Kit, especially right now. In fact, last time I was doing Common Blackhawk surveys iat Fossil Creek, I saw a group of about 55, soaring in thermals and circling around the canyon. My favorite author, Ed Abbey, always hoped that when he died he could turn into a Turkey Vulture so he could drift around the land without a care in the world. In honor of old Ed Abbey, i think I'll post a wildlife quiz question related to Turkey Vultures.
The birds at Fossil Creek have been phenomonal lately, and the Blackhawks that I was sent there to look for are seemingly everywhere and are in full breeding season mode. I watched a couple of them court each other the other day, what they do is they start circling upward in a thermal with one above the other, and they begin to go in circles that are the opposite direction. Up they go, until they are specks in the sky, then they both dive and do it all over again. It is a very beautiful dance. Also out there in Fossil Creek are Hooded Orioles, Brown Creepers, American Dippers, Painted Redstarts, Yellow, Lucy's, and Audubon's warblers, a Zone-tailed Hawk, Bell's and Hutton's Vireos, Bridled and Juniper Titmice, Black Phoebe's, Bewicks's, House and even a Winter Wren, and most rare of all, a Costa's Hummingbird.
Out in the windfarm site near Meteor Crater it is many of the same birds as I reported last time, but in Diablo Canyon there is a very rare pair of birds, and it seems like they may be breeding in the area. If they are breeding this will be the farthest North that the Crissal's Thrasher has been reported to have bred. I'll keep an eye on them.

I saw a red tailed hawk flying over the I-17 a couple of days ago when I was delivering pizza. It was pretty cool. It flew really low, over my car and landed on a small tree next to the freeway. ^_^
