Thanks for joining! Let us know a little something about yourself... what's your major? Your favorite thing to do on a sunny day? Why do you love wildlife? What is your favorite animal? What to do you do for a living? Anything you'd like to tell us about yourself would be greatly appreciated!

Howdy everyone, I am Christopher Calvo (whose secret identity is the Wildlife Society Forum moderator but I will use that only for official duties and fighting crime form my hidden lair ). I am the webmaster for the NAU Wildlfe Society and am an Environmental Science major with an emphasis in Biology and a big passion for bird conservation. Lets see...my favorite animal is...well I am kind of partial to the crow (if that wasn't obvious). I also love coyotes and other animals that I feel are pretty misunderstood. I'm looking forward to talking with you all if this forum gets going, but in the meantime I am content birding, drawing and riding rivers. ...please tell me I am not the only one writing on this thing.....

Hey Y'all, I am Jason Andreine, I am a Biology major with wildlife management and pre-vet emphasis. I enjoy hunting, fishing and camping, all of which always involve wildlife. I also enjoy spending time with my family's horses, that is of course when I am down in Hell - aka Phoenix! ;D My favorite animal(s) are scorpions (hard to guess that one, eh?) and other arachnids, horses especially Mustangs, actually there is not an animal on the face of this Earth that I dislike! If any of you would like to check out my website please feel free, there is a link under my profile. There you will pictures of our horses and wildlfe society outings. I look forward to sharing stories with you all! Stinger

Howdy Wildlifers! It is a real pleasure to be a part of The Wildlife Society. I have always been an outdoors person in search of a simple life and lover of wildlife as a whole. I enjoy archery, shooting, hunting, fishing, camping, photography and (I'm sure you can see the pattern by now) anything outdoors and away from the city. I'm a small town red-neck trapped in the big city. If I had to pick a favorite animal, I would have to choose the Elk. ;D
One of the best gifts we can give, is our time and compassion. I am always willing to help out and I can't think of a better group to be a part of and help out with. Thank you for having me as a member.

Hi Everyone, My name is Amanda Manzo, and I am a forestry graduate student with pie in the sky hopes of becoming a forest wildlife ecologist one day! I love playing my banjo (yes, I'm a picker!) fishing, hunting, camping, and watching wildlife. I love all kinds of animals, but I have a very special connection to the Bald Eagle. I look forward to your input and stories! Thanks for settin' this up Chris! Should be fun! Amanda

Hello! My name is Stephen Pipoly, but people call me Kit. I'm a transfer student attending NAU for the first time. I'm in Gabaldon hall, and starting to enjoy dorm life. Before this I'd only attended community colleges and such. I decided to attend NAU on something of a whim about two weeks ago...boy was it crazy getting everything done in that much time. But somehow I managed to pull it off.
If I'm on here I must love animals and wildlife and such, so that goes without saying. My favorite animal is the fox, which you've probably guessed. I also love raccoons, lions, tigers, and basically anything else with fur. Scaled and feathered creatures are ok in my book too. ^_^
I'm planning on joining the organization and becoming involved in activities and things. It seems like it will be a lot of fun and a great experience so I'm really looking forward to it!
I hope to see you all around campus! Oh yeah, I'm a zoology major. ^_^;

I stumbled across your webpage via Rawge's Wildlife Biology Information website - thought I'd come in and check it out to see what's going on. Seems to be pretty specific to Northern Arizona University and with a few very prolific and dedicated members! It's great that you guys are getting so into the field of wildlife biology and wildlife issues.
Anyhow, this is the "Introduce Yourself" section, so I guess I should - I'm a 45-yr-old wildlife biologist (Certified by TWS) living and working in northern Canada. I work for the government and cover a fairly huge chunk of the central Northwest Territories - we do research on barren-ground, boreal, and mountain caribou, Dall's sheep, muskox, moose, grizzly and black bears, wolves, furbearers, waterfowl, and non-game species - heck last year we even got really into butterfly and dragonfly collecting! We're just finishing off a big caribou survey/capture operation, which is why I'm at work on Good Friday - although I guess surfing the web ain't exactly working hard!
I encourage you younger folk who are still at university to maintain your interest and enthusiasm for this field of study - it's so important given the pace of development and landscape changes. Someone has to not only speak for wildlife, but be able to demonstrate using maps and figures why certain courses of action have to be taken - like development of protected areas. This is an area we're really devoting a lot of time to here these days. No point in knowing all about a species or group of species if they have no place to live.
I spent 13 years at university and remember those days as some of the finest of my life - enjoy them all and continue to do the good work you seem to be doing, getting out to see wildlife and wild spaces, and encouraging others to give a damn too.
Cheers,
Alasdair in Canada's NWT

Hi Alasdair and welcome to the forum! It sounds as if you have an interesting job up there in Canada and I'm sure we can learn a lot from you! It's good to have an experienced wildlifer posting on the forums here. =)

Wow, a lot of time has passed since this forum recieved 1 post, let alone 5 or 6. This is great! So to celebrate the potential rebirth of the forum, I figure it is time to reintroduce myself, since much has changed since I was a bio undergrad (see above post). My name is Chris Calvo and I graduated at NAU with an Environmental Science degree, and currently live out in the boonies near Flagstaff, AZ. Birds are my passion, and I've been fortunate enough to have worked with Yellow-billed Cuckoos and Common Blackhawks for many, many years, through USGS Colorado Plateau Research Station (where I was fortunate enough to meet many wonderful people, including samiam!). I have also worked with Pinyon Jays, have done surveys for Mexican Spotted Owls for NPS, and done bird inventories all across the high desert for many organizations (including wind farms and non-profit groups). Most recently I was a math and science teacher for a charter school outside of Flagstaff, and that was a blast, but currently I am back to working for USGS, managing a rangewide Yellow-billed Cuckoo database. I was part of NAU TWS about 6 years ago, and I am so happy to see it going strong. You all are amazing! Also, I love to play music! I used to be in a local band called Circadian Rhythms, but now just drift around from band to band with a handful of drums. I look forward to meeting you all! Crow Here is me and Laila, watching ravens at Grand Falls

I just returned last year to NAU. I did 4 years in the Army. I was medically retired out. My major is Forestry. Favorite this to do on a sunny day is Hike with My German Shepherd Dogs, go fishing, or swim at one of the creeks nearby. My favorite animal is the Wolf, and I am a full time student at NAU.
