My buddy Geoff and I went on a looooong Common Blackhawk site scouting trip yesterday, hitting up places like Dry Beaver Creek, the south end of Sycamore Canyon, the confluence of the Verde River and Oak Creek, and other places in between....unfortunatley we were mostly "working" and not birding, but I did get a partial list of some cool birds that we saw. There were Verdins, Gila Woodpeckers, and a distant Yellow Warbler singing around Dry Beaver Creek. On the long dirt road to Sycamore Canyon we had a Common Blackhawk perched in an AZ Sycamore tree, and a perched Cooper's hawk near by. And along the Verde we picked up Say's Phoebe, and Ash-throated Flycatcher and the first Broad-billed Hummingbird I have heard this season.
it is good to be birding again!
