Laila and I were hiking around the West Clear Creek Wilderness area with Vito (our dog) enjoying a nice sunny walk on Wednesday, when suddenly the leaves in front of us rustled loudly. Vito could care less, but Laila and my jaw dropped as a huge Gila Monster came lumbering out. I awkwardly walked up the slope, pausing to look back at us every few steps, and would lick at large blades of grass (getting insects?) every once and again. This was Laila's first Gila Monster and it was a magnificent one.

Good luck Sam! I also had never seen one in the wild, and am ashamed to say the only one I had seen previously to this was smashed on the side of the road. All my years here though looking for one finally came thorugh.
