CROW IS ALIVE! I was worried about you. Glad to know you're back! Can't wait to hear about your trip. I have a small plug..... Read the vollunteers section. Game and fish needs vollunteers to help with a kids fishing clinic this Saturday April 16th at lower lake Mary. How cool would it be to hang out by the lake and get to know some wildlife folks? Let me know if you are interested, and I'll hook you up with the details. Love, Eaglewoman

Let me know if you are interested, and I'll hook you up with the details. That sounds great Eaglewoman. I can think of a few folks that might be interested in that. The "hook you up" line had me laughing out loud. Nice one!

Howdy everyone..... So, elections are coming up, eh? Hope I can make it to that one! I say we have some kind of 10 minute debate about issues concerning wildlife or something cool like that. "Do you believe that species go extinct "naturally" in modern times, or is it all tied to human causes? And if it is a "natural " extinction, do you believe we should interfere?", or how about, " How would you propose we address hunters on the concerns of lead bullets?". Tough questions like that would be pretty cool to get a debate going on between the canidates. It might be a nightmare to set up at such a short notice, but man, it'd be fun.
Good luck to all the folks running!

What is this ...some kind of a social club? Is there anywhere in this forum that discusses serious wildlife issues( like maybe the recent Harp Seal massacre in the North Atlantic!) or is this just a private forum for a handful of people discussing what to do this weekend?

Hello lizard, welcome. It is actually a bit of both if you take the time to look in the other threads. Many of the members are from the same area, but there are many from across the U.S. as well. Right now the conversations have slowed down a bit, but if you would like to try to get more people involved by posting about serious wildlife issues then that would be most welcomed. You can start a thread under the section "Wildlife Issues and Debates" if you want to. Nice to meet you again, and hope to see you posting.

You have GOT to be kidding ...... no posts from anyone for a week about ANYTHING!!! Is there a point to this so-called 'forum'? Why would anyone who loves and cares about wildlife waste their time here?!! Life on this planet is truly sacred and deserves infinitely more attention and respect than you image- conscious phonies seem to be willing to give it ....you should be ashamed!!!! I live in northern AZ and was hoping to find some local people who shared my concerns and passion for wildlife ...maybe even join an organization and get involved ........guess I'll keep looking 'cause this sure isn't the place .....

Well Lizard, Sounds like you are passionate. THATS GREAT! I guess in defense of most of us...we're in college (some in grad school even)...and it's that time of year (finals)...where we are cramming our brains plum full of info about wildlife, physiology, chemistry and all sorts of other stuff we need to know about in order to be informed and productive activists. Anyway, I think if you stick around, you'll find a group of folks who genuinly care about the Earth and her inhabitants...and folks who like to get down with each other to celebrate life on this beautiful, awful world. As far as image conscious phonies go....Wow...HAVE YOU EVER SEEN US BEFORE? Man we are a bunch of the ugliest lookin' folks you'd ever know... Ya'll know I love ya! On a more serious note...We are ALL so very different from one another, and fall together with our love for the Earth and Wildlife. We accept each other for who we are, and we have a deep connection with one another because we are of the Earth...and we all feel it...something you would only see if you met us. I'm not offended by you. In fact I hope we spark a talk. But...if we have not demonstrated the passionate activism you need, all apologies. I hope you find what you are looking for. Peace for the lizard. Eagle

While I normally appreciate good criticism, I unfortunetly cannot dignify lizards post with an answer. It is too judgemental and scattered. But lizard, some of us are working with and for wildlife 5 days a week, if only you'd of taken the time to ask.
That being said, Eaglewoman, I will never cease to be amazed at your compassion, honesty and common sense. You are an inspiration to me, and I believe that you are an inspiration to many wildlife folks who grow weary of the same old arguments and same old judgements that prevent people from different walks of life working together for a common cause.

Hmm...always interesting when one goes fishing ....put some bait on a line....cast it out ... sit back and see what, if anything, bites ..........eaglewoman, I agree, is impressive with her compassion and willingness to embrace someone with passionate but different ideas ... I salute her strength, her understanding, and her wisdom. Perhaps she understands that my intent was not to offend (what would be the point of that?) but rather an attempt to refocus our attention from ourselves (and our egos) back to what this (or any) wildlife forum should be about ....the intricate, beautiful and fragile web of Life on this planet and what those of us who love and respect it can do to protect it so that it will still be here long after we (and our egos) are long gone ....... I hate to continue to digress from that most important mission but feel compelled to respond to 'crow' who I find considerably less impressive ....his " I won't dignify that with an answer" comment is such a tired old overused and cowardly copout way to respond to anything ....and "scattered"? Where does he come up with this drivel? Earth is under attack these days(as we all are aware) by forces of greed and ignorance ...forces that are tremendously rich and powerful and will go to any length to further their agenda ....the only way we will ever be able to stand up to them is to have COURAGE ....if someone attacks us (and they certainly have no qualms about doing it) we must have the strength and the resolve to stand up to them (got that, crow?) or we're all just wasting our time. The defense of Earth and the Sacred Web of Life must be done by Warriors and not by self-rightious wimps who "won't dignify that with an answer" ... Years ago I had the great good fortune to share a desert campfire and some cold beers with (thanks to a mutual friend) the late Ed Abbey ...I can assure you that he was no weak and snivelling "tree-hugger" (tho he did love trees) but rather a gruff and cantankerous old fart who was ready to stand up to whatever threatened the Earth that he loved ...the one thing that he seemed to detest more than anything, tho, was people who liked to call themselves enviornmentalists but didn't have the balls to actually take any real action .....hence " The Monkey-Wrench Gang", 'EarthFirst, and the whole concept of radical activism ........COURAGE, my friends, COMMITMENT ...not "gee whiz, what's your favorite animal?" Crow ...I think maybe you belong in Disneyland. Then again ....like I indicated last time...maybe I'm in the wrong place.

Hey hey, chill out, lizard! I think you just don't know everyone here very well... You just judged the cover of a book, from what I've seen... Everyone wants sometime to relax, communicate with other wildlifers, and this thread was intended for this purpose in the very begining. People here were just saying something that might sound not "Wildlife" to you, and you're dissing us like a Extreme Radical whatever widlifer... You want to know what's frustrating? I'm not a wildlife biology major, not even a US citizen; and I just want to join even as a volunteer, most of the time the answers were "this is federal job, you must be US citizen whatever" or "we prefer biology major student, blahblahblah..." So how'd ya feel if it were you? I'm waiting for my paycheck for months, and still haven't got it... I donated couple time to Defenders of wildlife (at least this is what I can do so far), but now I can't do it as I said I'm kinda broke, now I received couple more letters about new campaign needing donation... You think I don't donate this time because I don't care anymore? How about I were to ask you donate some in behalf of me? Besides, Crow just took some time here talked casual stuffs and some people just don't see him much other time, this is the only place to get a hold what he's up to... But what do you know what he's done in the field? Or why don'tcha just tell us how much you've contributed to wildlife so it makes you feel better? Geeze, people just want to take life "easy" here while in real life have to deal with tons of tough crap, and all you have to say was we ain't care about wildlife or whatever nature... If you want to blame, not us, THE B' Government out there whose minions are trying to ruin the effort all the wildlifers have done, and those who only look for short term profit but trying to jeopardize the endangered species act!! Peace

Howdy Shapeshifter! Good to hear from you again. And what you wrote was well said indeed. This government can be pretty messed up. Are you going to be around town this summer? lizard, it sounds to me like your in the right place, as i said once before, welcome. I'd love to talk with you more about your ideas about the earth and its inhabitants. i share not your penchant for preaching, but, nonetheless, I will try to contribute passionatley to what you have to say. You sound very familiar to me, perhaps we know each other? Ed Abbey was a damn fine writer indeed. He seemed to like to fire people up with his wit and wisdom, and its great that you actually got to meet the person behind the words. As far as Earth First goes, i recommend a great book called Confessions of the Barbarian, by Dave Foreman, and it shows the pitfalls of a one-sided, militaristic argument, not willing to embrace the other. Those "tree-huggers" you speak of, as well as scientists, hunters, fishermen and women, and activists on all fronts, have something equally important to contribute to the table, but to me its not the philosphy you speak of that is misunderstood, instead it is the other way around and the misunderstanding is created by judgement and a need for notorioty. I hope to talk with you more, lizard, we can trade hidden insults to each other all day if you want, or we can chalk it up to the Great Misunderstanding, and give each other a chance to speak. In the meantime, i'll be waiting in Disneyland for your response (actually I'll be in the field for a while, but I do hope to talk to you and listen to you a lot more.)

It's unfortunate that the lizard does not know the CROW. Trust me...I know him...you have the wrong idea... Eaglewoman! You missed a good game of Poker the other night. Hope to see you when I get back from Yuma. And I am pretty sure he does know me, doesn't like me, and so on, but thank you so much for your kind words in the midst of this strange journey.

P.S. It's intriguing to me how someone so dissapointed with a site created by folks from Disneyland, continues to drop in.
Are you really a compassionate lover of life...or are you just here to stir other's thoughts? Not a bad thing...
I am a conservation biologist and a student of wildife and the Earth. And...YES..I go fishin'...YES... I go huntin' too...YES...I'm a conservation biologist...and I believe in wildlife managment...ALSO...I have a spiritual connection with the land and the life here too...I don't expect you to understand me...
Once again...Peace to the Lizard. If you are not satisfied here...good luck to you.
I will not respond to these messages anymore....I'm busy working with and for wildlife.
Teedelleedee, Eaglewoman
