No we did not see them on the way out but that Ibises was still there! While the others were watching the bird I was scanning the horizon looking for them. All those darn Junipers look like Bison, I swear! Sometimes, they even appear to be moving! Wow Crow! Only 10 more posts and you become out first Mexican Grey Wolf!!

This is another Roosevelt Lake trip sighting.... You know, one of the best wildlife viewing roads on the rim would have to be the Lake Mary Road and the road to Strawberry. There is always so much activity along that stretch, and the scenery is gorgeous too. Driving down the other day, Sparrowhawk and I saw 2 Elk (with really odd looking antlers) and a Coyote, as well as a ton of birds. And driving back up the next day we saw 4 more Elk, a shrew of some sort, and 2 Javalina. We stopped to get pictures of the 'ol Peccary, but one took off running at speeds I couldn't believe for such an awkward shaped animal, and the other just stood there staring us down with its hackles raised and it teeth showing. Quite an impressive stance! We took a picture and headed on down the road.....

Hey Crow, I would love to see the ol' peccary picture. Those guys are fast as heck! I was riding my motorcyle just outside of Payson when I came across an entire heard. They leaped out of the brush and ran down the dirt road right next to me. I was in 4th gear, just shy of full throttle and they kept up with me for about 35 yards before they took a sharp cut back into the brush. If I remember correctly, there was 7 of them. It was way cool!
Well, unfortunately, I made an elk (cow) sighting on the way back to Phoenix on Sunday afternoon. I will spare you the details, as you can imagine why I say it was unfortunate.

Hey Crow, What was odd about the elk's antlers? My guess is that they were probably new and covered with velvet, but that is just a guess.

Yeah...they just looked strange, almost like young moose antlers, very stubby and compacted, but definetly lots of velvet like your're saying, they were completley brown.
Chromius, thats amazing man! Emily will definetly send the Javelina picture to Stinger, if she ever gets around to sitting down at a computer for once.

Yup....sounds like they were just starting to grow! That is the best description for them, young moose antlers! ;D
Yeah, if Sparrowhawk ever gets on here! Definitely send me the pics, since I can update the sight from anywhere, I could do it on one of my days off!

Hi Everyone, This morning I saw five Mule deer running together in an open feild just off of I-17 South of Kachina Village. It's funny because just before I saw them, I was thinking, I wonder where the deer are! See ya!

Kind of an odd sighting, but my dog and I were walking around the crater and we started to see a pocupine quill here and there and finally we came upon an area that looked a like a fight had taken place in it. All the pine needles and cinders were churneed up and moven around, you could see a couple of large gouges in the cinders too, like someting was being dragged. Then my dog found what was left of the Porcupine up the hill a ways. The interesting thing was that the the only thing left was the completley intact skin of the porcupine, with most of the quills still on it, but it was very skillfully hollowd out and was even quite clean. Whoever got this Porcupine knew exactly what it was doing.

This is a freakin' awesome sighting Crow! I wonder what the heck could have done it. Hmmm, something with sharp claws? Anyway, it's impressive. Did you indulge and keep a quill? I think I would have had to keep a small momento of the event.

Yep, you got me, I did keep a few quills. In fact, since they are a powerful symbol of protection to me I took some to give to friends and family too, to keep them protected and what not. I even got one for each of you all.
This week has consisted of Coyotes, Jackrabbits and Deer Mice. Coyotes with their nightly lullaby, Jackrabbits with their ability to be a statue and blend in with the brush, and the Deer Mouse got personal with me. I was moving an old abandonned washing machine out on the land, getting ready to take it to the dump, and the deer mouse hopped out from under the lid, scrambled onto my hand and leaped off onto the cinders. Scared the hell out of me to tell you the truth!

Boy....I LOVE THE SUMMER! Last week, I spent at least 4 days outside. It was so great! Because of that, I have too many sightings to write about, so I'll keep it short. The elk and the deer are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All along Lake Mary Road, I saw too many to count. It's always the best place to spot them. I was down at Kohl's Ranch for a good part of last week. although I did not see any large mammals, the tracks and scat are so abundant, I am sure I'll see things like Bears, Racoons, Javelina, White tail, and of course elk. I even found some Turkey tracks.

Well, I'll try not to be too happy....But I helped catch 3 Bull elk, a cow, and a yearling this last week. These animals are even more amazing than I ever believed so.

Howdy Y'all,
I am proud to say that I had an awesome sighting on the way up to Flagstaff on Friday. It is the first positive sighting that I have had in quite some time! Yeh! Just south of Flag, about a mile or two south of the Subway along I-17, I seen three fawn feeding about 20 or so yards off the road. You have no idea how happy this sighting made me! ;D I was a 5 moose sighting. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
