Let us know what's out there folks! What great mammals did you see on your last trip or on your way to school? Find any tracks or signs, hear any great animal encounter stories?

There were some amazing mammals at the Adobe Mountain Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Phoenix that many of us went to last week. From Javelina to a Bobcat (who was kept as a pet and declawed, thus cannot re-enter the wild ), they had it all, and unfortunetly most of them can never be released again due to the severity or type of their injury, but at least they have a pretty nice place to stay. The dedication that this primarily volunteer ran operation has was amazing to see.

Early on Tuesday morning, my Ornithology Lab went out on a fild trip to Garland Prairie and Schultz Lake. I'll put the bird sightings over on the other thread, but on the way there we saw a heard of about 61 Elk off in the distance, slowly moving for the tree line. And near Schultz Lake, off in a field with the Peaks as a backdrop there were two Pronghorn.

Oh man Crow! That is an awesome sighting! 61 Elk!!! And Pronghorns are so beautiful too! I usually see them around Prescott, actually near Antelope Hills golf course, kinda makes sense why they named it that eh? Were the Elk all cows and calves or were there some bulls hanging around? Though I guess if they shed they can be difficult to tell apart. Did you see any sheds near the lake?

Hey guys, I was out on Anderson Mesa this weekend, off on a little dirt road between the Ashurst and Kinnikinick turn offs. I was doing a little birding when I noticed a small herd of elk, 15 or 20, off in the distance. What was so unusual was that I saw a Bull! So what, right? He still had both of his antlers! Judging by the large size of the antlers, I figured he was pretty mature. I just thought it was interesting that he hadn't shed, yet. Have a good one!

WOW! That is pretty amazing that the bull has not shed yet! What a great sighting!!
Friday night driving out to Raymond Ranch, Chromius and I were idling down the road searching the area with a light. As we drove down into this wash, my beam of light caught the glimmer of a pair of eyes straring back at us. We sat there for what felt like hours watching the animal watch us, trying to figure out what exactly we were looking at. Chromius was 100% sure it was a Bobcat but I was not as convinced once I saw it begin to trot away, that is until Sunday when we were driving out and I saw the terrain in the daylight. Now there is no doubt in my mind that it was a Bobcat!!

Yo Wildlifers! Who has some cool digital pictures from Raymond Ranch that is willing to email Ol' Chromius some. If anyone has a picture of the ranch housing area and some good close shots of the Bison, I would love to see them. That big old lens that I toted around did not get as close of pictures as I'd hoped for.
Thanks y'all!

Yeah I know, sometimes even Chromius has a lucky guess!! Dont let him fool you, he is a lot smarter than he gives himself credit for! I just happen to be able to remember more useless facts and statistics! Bro, I am getting copies of the pics from Crow and Mark on CD, so I can either mail them to you after I put them on my sight or you can get them from there. Did you leave a copy of your pics at Mom's? Danielle said she did not see any.

Was exploring this canyon south of flag about a week ago and saw some mountain lion tracks in the snow patches left on the bottom of the canyon. No mountain lion though!

At the Moon Crater Wildlife Refuge, Sparrowhawk and I got to watch a very healthy looking Coyote come in and drink from the bird pond. Also we saw a Ground Squirrel, Rock Squirrel and an Abert's Squirrel. Our dog Cinder unfortunetly saw them too and scared them off pretty quick.

Yeah, they were beautiful! Kind of erie how they just stood there, so still, durng the break of dawn when the light wasn't so good. Its like they appeared out of nowhere.
We also saw a Cliff Chipmunk hanging out by Midgley Bridge. Cute little guy.
